The Rock School prepares select students for competitions and will continue its relationship with Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP),
the largest student ballet competition in the world. Qualified students
will participate in the regional event in Philadelphia and the national
event in New York City. Participants will be selected by the Directors
in the first several months of the school year.
For the past three years, The Rock School has had many finalists and
medalists in both the regional and national finals of Youth America
Grand Prix. Recently, students of The Rock School won two gold medals,
four silver medals, three bronze medals, and The Hope Award.
The Rock School was selected “Outstanding School†at the Regional Youth
America Grand Prix (YAGP) in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The Philadelphia
YAGP regional competition encompasses a region south of New York City
and through the Washington, D.C. area. The Rock School was also
selected “Outstanding School†at the 2007 New York City YAGP finals. In
2008, the Rock School had more solo finalists chosen for New York City
YAGP finals than any school competing.
In 2005, Rock School students were the first American trained dancers
in 24 years to win gold and bronze medals at the prestigious
international competition in Moscow, Russia. In 2006, The Rock School
won gold and bronze at the equally prestigious USA International Ballet
Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, becoming the only school to win
two medals.
