Early Dance is your child’s first exposure to dance. Classes are structured to help students build on their motor skills and musical awareness by teaching the basic principles of both ballet and tap dance.
CURRICULUM
The Early Dance division is open to students ages 2 – 5 at their time of enrollment. Students are placed in classes based primarily on their age, while taking their experience into account. It is recommended that students at this level take advantage of their free trial class before enrollment.
The School offers to new all students a free trial class in order for our faculty to correctly level the dancer.
Kinder Dance - Open to girls and boys 2 to 3 years old and their parents.
Similar to a Mommy and Me style class, Kinder Dance is an opportunity for students to learn the basic dance principals with the security of having their parent in the studio with them.
Early Dance 1 - Open to girls and boys 3 to 4 years old.
An introduction to Ballet and Tap designed to teach basic dance steps and proper terminology while developing the student’s large motor skills, musical awareness and appreciation for dance using classical and contemporary music.
Early Dance 2 - Open to girls and boys 4 to 5 years old.
A continued introduction to Ballet and Tap designed to further develop the motor skills, adding additional patterns and terminology.
Early Dance 3 - Open to girls and boys 5 years old.
An introduction to the formal Ballet, Tap and Jazz programs. This classes enhances musical awareness and continue the development of better coordination. It is a pressure free foundation for the future discovery of the dance disciplines.
DRESS CODE
Rock West dress codes are established for the dancer’s safety and aid in the instructor’s ability to correct and educate students.
Top – Any solid color leotard
Tights - Pink
Shoes – Pink Ballet slippers. Black Tap shoes.
Hair – Worn neatly off the face. Long hair must be in a bun.
Skirts or leotards with attached skirts are allowed.
No leg warmers, t-shirts, tank tops, sweatpants or shorts will be allowed.
INSTRUCTOR-STUDENT CONTACT
The Rock School offers teaching that is individual and hands-on. It is normal and appropriate for a member of the faculty to manually and physically position a pupil to expound a point of instruction or to identify some needed technique correction. The School neither condones nor tolerates any touching of students by instructors that is harmful, professionally reckless, or that violates generally accepted tenets of propriety. Before enrolling a student, please consider that it is school policy to correct children with physical contact. If the student or parent/guardian is uncomfortable with this policy, you may wish to reconsider enrolling the student.
